What Is the SAT

Format & Scoring Overview

The US university admissions test — now fully digital

The SAT is administered by the College Board and is one of the primary standardised tests used in US university admissions. Scored out of 1600, it consists of two sections: Reading & Writing (800 points) and Mathematics (800 points). As of 2024, the SAT is fully digital and adaptive, meaning the difficulty of Module 2 depends on how you perform in Module 1.

Common questions about our tutoring services

Both tests are widely accepted at US universities, and most students should take whichever they score higher on after a diagnostic attempt of each. We offer a combined SAT/ACT diagnostic to help students make an informed decision before committing to a full preparation programme. The SAT is slightly more reading-intensive and tests maths in a more applied way. The ACT has a separate Science section and is often preferred by students who are strong in sciences.
Yes, we have full-length Digital SAT practice papers available for download. Students enrolled in our SAT programme work through these systematically with timed conditions, and we provide written score analysis after each one. Additional papers are available for extended preparation programmes.
Reaching the 99th percentile requires more than just knowing math and grammar. We focus on Pattern Recognition—identifying "trap" answers in Reading and mastering the 15 recurring math concepts that make up 80% of the test.
On average, students see a significant jump (150+ points) with 20 to 30 hours of targeted 1-on-1 coaching, combined with consistent weekly mock exams.
A superscore is a scoring policy used by many universities in which they combine a student's highest section scores across multiple SAT test dates to create a new, higher composite score. For example, if a student achieves their highest Math score on one test date and their highest Reading and Writing score on another, a university that practices SAT superscoring will consider the best section results from each administration. This can strengthen a student's overall admissions profile. Superscoring is widely used in the United States and is accepted by many highly competitive institutions, including universities such as Harvard and MIT. However, its use is far less common in Europe. Many European universities that accept the SAT, including institutions such as Bocconi, typically require scores from a single test administration and do not apply a superscore policy.
We use a variety of materials, including official SAT practice tests, study guides, and custom worksheets. Our materials are designed to cover all sections of the SAT, including Reading, Writing and Language, and Math.
